DBS Congress Contributes to a Common Scientific Foundation
The 2nd Congress of the Deep Brain Stimulation Association concluded successfully in Antalya.
The 2nd Congress of the Deep Brain Stimulation Association was successfully completed.
Organised by the Deep Brain Stimulation Association from 9–11 January 2026 in Antalya, the congress brought together expert scientists from Turkey and abroad.
Prof. Dr. Ersoy Kocabıçak, President of the Deep Brain Stimulation Association and Rector of Istanbul Atlas University, stated that the scientific sessions and multidisciplinary discussions strengthened knowledge exchange in the field of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and contributed to building a common scientific foundation.
Held under the theme "New Routes, New Horizons," the congress addressed DBS applications — particularly for Parkinson's disease, movement disorders, and psychiatric conditions — from a multidisciplinary perspective.
The event featured leading Turkish physicians and healthcare professionals alongside distinguished international guests: Prof. Dr. Abdelhamid Benazzouz (President of the International Deep Brain Stimulation Society), Prof. Dr. Yasin Temel (Editor of the DBS Journal and 2nd President of the Society), Prof. Dr. Elena Moro (Board Member and President of the European Academy of Neurology), and Prof. Dr. Adriana Lopez. Their participation created a strong platform for national and international scientific exchange in the field of DBS.
The congress, which by its nature brings together multiple disciplines, gathered experts from neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, and related specialties to exchange views on case presentations, clinical experiences, and current research. Academic sessions aimed not only to share current data but also to reinforce a common scientific approach.
Prof. Dr. Ersoy Kocabıçak: "A Common Scientific Foundation Was Built in the Field of DBS"
Commenting on the congress, Prof. Dr. Ersoy Kocabıçak stated:
"At this congress, which brought together colleagues from different disciplines working in deep brain stimulation, we held productive discussions in light of scientific advances and technological innovations. We particularly aimed to present new perspectives by addressing DBS applications in psychiatric disorders and non-invasive neuromodulation methods."
Prof. Dr. Kocabıçak also noted that the Atlas University Neuromodulation Centre participated with a large team, actively contributing to the scientific programme through shared case experiences.
This high-quality congress strengthened knowledge exchange in DBS through its scientific sessions and multidisciplinary discussions.
Prof. Dr. Kocabıçak thanked all scientists, stakeholders, and participants who contributed to the organisation — especially the chairman of the organising committee, Prof. Dr. Tanju Uçar — and affirmed that the Deep Brain Stimulation Association will continue its scientific work with determination to develop innovative solutions and improve the quality of life for patients with neurological and psychiatric conditions.
